Original Review ArticlePomegranate (Anardana) herbal balls are a traditional South-Asian nutraceutical made from dried pomegranate seeds (Punica granatum) mixed with cumin, fennel, black pepper, dried ginger (saunth), dried unripe mango powder (amchur), rock salt, black salt, and lemon juice. Pomegranate seed oil contains punicic acid (up to 76% of total seed oil), polyphenols, and punicalagin that enhance mitophagy, limit NF-κB-mediated neuro-inflammation, and improve cognition in 5XFAD mice models. Additionally, bioactives in Zingiber officinale (gingerols, shogaols) activate AMPK, inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome, and relieve insulin resistance. Fennel compounds (anethole, rosmarinic acid) modulate GABAergic signaling, while cuminaldehyde from cumin downregulates α-glucosidase. Piperine from black pepper increases drug bioavailability and reduces α-synuclein aggregation. 1. Introduction
